Freedom, Media and Democracy

The 8th Eastern European Day treats the dialectics of power and freedom in Russia and in Russia’s relationship with its neighbours, as for example the Baltic States, Belarus, Ukraine or the countries of the Southern Caucasus – the so called CIS countries. What are the prospects of freedom and democracy in the CIS region? Is political, social and
economic change possible in the shadow of a difficult neighbour?
